MAZ-7310 Radar P-18PL under an operational and simulation/modding asset framework:
Military & Technical Explanation: MAZ-7310 Radar P-18PL
In air defense and electronic surveillance doctrine, this designation describes the tactical integration of a heavy high-mobility transport platform with a long-range Very High Frequency (VHF) meter-band early warning radar system.
1. Mobility Platform: MAZ7310
Tactical Role: An 8×8 heavy off-road transport vehicle (derived from the Soviet/Belarusian MAZ heavy missile carrier chassis).
Operational Capability: Serves as the self-propelled carrier for heavy radar antennas, power generators, and operational command shelters. Its high ground clearance and 8-wheel drive allow the radar unit to deploy in rugged terrain (cross-country), significantly improving survivability against counter-battery fires or anti-radiation missile (ARM) strikes through rapid shoot-and-scoot capability.
2. Electronic Surveillance Payload: Radar_P18PL
Tactical Role: A modern 3D long-range early warning and air surveillance radar operating in the VHF (meter-wave) frequency spectrum.
Strategic Purpose:
Anti-Stealth Detection: Meter-band frequencies excel at detecting low-observable (stealth) aircraft, cruise missiles, and drones that are designed to absorb or scatter conventional high-frequency microwave radar signals.
3D Target Tracking: Unlike legacy analog P-18 radar systems (which provided only 2D range/azimuth data), modern 3D variants (such as the P-18PL / P-18 AESA modernizations) incorporate digital beamforming to measure altitude, speed, and precise 3D vector coordinates simultaneously.
